About me

I offer specialist therapeutic services for older adolescents, adults and families. My focus is providing a space where my clients can come to understand what underpins their eating difficulties, and offering support and guidance as they move from awareness and understanding, to figuring out the ‘how’ of making change. My approach to therapy is holistic and includes, managing thoughts, emotions and behaviour, re-examining diet culture, strengthening relationships and attuning to our bodies. I offer short and long-term therapy, depending on whether brief skill based interventions or space for longer term support and processing is desired.

Prior to starting Practice 371, I worked for the Waitemata District Health Board Older Adult Community Mental Health team, alongside private practice roles both in general mental health and specialist eating disorder settings. I have also been employed by the University of Auckland as a Research Fellow, contributing to eating disorder research.

In addition to my work with eating disorders, I have a special interest in neuropsychology and working with older adults, particularly age-related concerns.

About me

I specialise in supporting people who struggle with eating difficulties, across the age span, but I particularly enjoy working with adolescents and their families. I take a holistic approach to therapy, considering mind, body and spirit to support health and wellbeing. I aim to help clients better understand themselves, including their strengths and values, whilst learning new tools to make positive changes. My approach is also aligned with the principles of the Health at Every Size (HAES)® movement, which aims to promote self-care through addressing health behaviours, acknowledging and tackling weight stigma, and being inclusive of human diversity in terms of body size, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender identification.

I believe in responding to the individual needs of my clients. I do so using a range of evidence based modalities, including Adolescent & Parent Treatment (APT), which is an inclusive approach to treatment of anorexia nervosa in teens.

Prior to specialising in eating disorders, I worked at Auckland and Middlemore Hospital in a variety of medical specialities, including cardiology, respiratory, rheumatology and chronic pain. I also have experience in primary care, where I supported clients with a range of challenges.

In addition to my work with eating disorders, I have a special interest in managing long term conditions, chronic pain, and maternal mental health.

About me

I offer specialist eating disorder treatment for young adults and adults who have a challenging relationship with food, eating, body image, and/or exercise. My strong passion in this area has been informed by my doctoral research and the completion of my internship at an eating disorder private practice.

My focus in therapy is to provide a safe and compassionate space for clients to better understand their distress. I support you to develop a peaceful relationship with food and your body, teaching tools and strategies to manage emotions, enhancing self-esteem, and practicing self-compassion. I apply a holistic strengths-based approach that aims to maximise well-being and personal recovery goals. I truly believe recovery is possible and am here to hold hope even amidst the challenges along the journey.

My commitment and passion towards Health At Every Size (HAES) is centred within my therapeutic approach. This involves collaboratively examining diet culture and fat-phobic discourses, whilst also being passionate about ending weight discrimination on a societal level.

My therapeutic approach is underpinned by evidence-based practice that is tailored to you. Supporting people at an early point of intervention is central to both my vision and values. I am passionate about reducing the stigma and stereotyping with eating disorders, improving access to care across all bodies, and instilling hope and motivation towards recovery.

About me

I am an experienced counsellor who has worked with individuals (children, adolescents and adults), families and couples. I have a strong interest and passion for providing therapeutic support to family and friends of those experiencing an eating disorder or eating challenges.

My passion developed as an outcome of experiencing first-hand the realities of reaching out for help, supporting a loved one through treatment, whilst also holding and acknowledging the huge impact eating disorders have on all involved. As a specialist couples counsellor, trained with the Gottman Institute, I also use research-grounded methods to support couples to sustain their loving connection during this challenging time.

Additionally, I support people facing challenges around body image, self-worth and eating behaviours. My work is underpinned by a person-centred and HAES approach, and my focus is on nurturing connection to self and others to bring about and sustain change.

Prior to joining Practice 371, I worked as the Clinical Team Leader at a local counselling organisation, where I supervised counselling staff, and also worked with people struggling with a variety of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, grief, postnatal issues, parenting and life transitions. I am a parent of teenage children, and in my previous career was a social worker, working in crisis intervention with children and families, and as a specialist social work trainer.

Alongside my work in the eating disorders field, I am available to offer general couples counselling.

Anne-Sophie Selwyn (she/her)

Clinic days are Monday and Tuesday (10am-6pm), and Thursday (9am-3pm)

About me

I specialise in working with adults struggling with eating and body image issues. My passion lies in supporting adults to a place of food freedom, body acceptance, and to living a full and rich life. I have worked across more than one practice in the eating disorder space, with a keen interest throughout my career.

I have 20 years experience working with a range of presentations, in both public and private sectors across Australia and New Zealand. Throughout my varied roles, I have found that there is definite overlap between eating disorders and other struggles, often trauma, anxiety and mood disorders.

Prior to specialising in eating disorders I worked with survivors of trauma. I firmly believe that we all have an innate ability to find ways to cope with difficult times in our lives, and that these ways have enabled us to survive. There comes a point, however, when these strategies no longer serve us well. One of my goals is to help transform those strategies into those that serve so that a better nourished body and mind can be enjoyed.

I enjoy working with clients of all body sizes, drawing from the Health At Every Size (HAES) approach to care and support clients to find a peaceful relationship with food and body. I use a range of evidence-based eating disorder and trauma-informed practices, including Internal Family Systems, Sensorimotor Therapy and Brainspotting (which is a specific neuroscience based therapy).

About me

My passion in life is lifestyle enhancement, both for myself and for my clients. I have worked across a range of areas providing this care, with a special interest in recovery from eating disorders.

As we move through life, our intuition to know what, when, and how much to feed ourselves can be lost. This could be due to disordered eating practices, dieting, body image concerns, medically imposed restrictions, or just general confusion with the wealth of conflicting information that is out there. Our work together will focus on additions to your diet and lifestyle that are supportive of moving you towards your goals, and regaining this intuition.

There is no singular physical manifestation of disordered eating, it can show up in all bodies and all bodies deserve treatment. Treatment is focused around physical renourishment, followed by facilitating a healed relationship with food and self. I will work alongside your recovery team (e.g. GP, Psychologist, Whānau), to ensure you have the best outcomes from treatment.

Far from being cold and clinical, I hope our sessions to be a place where you feel comfortable, and able to talk freely around your dietary concerns. I aim to provide continuity of care and a trusted, therapeutic space, allowing you to work on your healing and health while feeling supported.

I look forward to meeting you.
— Anna
